Why Choose this Black Tungsten Ring with Blue Pattern

  • Scratch Resistant: Tungsten carbide scores 9 to 9.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Only a diamond can scratch it. Your ring will look the same in ten years as it does on your wedding day, without polishing or re-finishing.
  • Solid and Weighty: Tungsten is as dense as gold. It sits on your finger with a solid, substantial feel that lightweight metals like titanium or silver do not offer. Many men prefer this weight because it feels like something worth wearing.
  • Hypoallergenic: Our tungsten rings are made with a nickel binder, not cobalt. This means no skin staining, no green marks, and no allergic reactions for the vast majority of wearers.
  • Safe in an Emergency: Tungsten does not bend under pressure; it cracks. In the event your finger swells after an injury, a tungsten ring can be safely removed using vice grip pliers. This is safer than a gold or silver ring that could bend and restrict blood flow.
  • No Maintenance Required: Plain tungsten rings keep their finish permanently. You never need to polish or re-plate them. If you choose a plated design (black, gold, or rose gold), the plating can wear over time with daily use, but the tungsten beneath stays intact.
  • Affordable: Tungsten wedding rings cost a fraction of gold or platinum. You get a ring built to last a lifetime, at a price that does not require a payment plan.

Sizing Guide

How to measure your finger

Visit any local jeweller and ask them to size your finger for a comfort fit, 6mm or 8mm ring. This is the most accurate method. Tell them which width you are ordering so they can account for the comfort fit difference. If you prefer to measure at home, use a free ring sizer tool to get your UK letter size. We use British (UK) ring sizes. Your size will be a letter, for example Size R or Size T.

What is comfort fit?

All our rings are made with a comfort fit interior. This means the inner edge of the ring is slightly curved rather than flat, so it slides over the knuckle more easily and sits comfortably on your finger. A comfort fit ring runs half a size larger than a standard fit ring. For example, if you normally wear a standard size R, you would order size Q half in a comfort fit ring. For rings wider than 8mm, order your standard size since the wider band already creates a snug fit.

Important Warning: Tungsten rings cannot be resized. This is the single most important thing to know before you buy. Tungsten carbide is too hard to cut or alter. Attempting to resize a tungsten ring would crack it. Measure carefully before you order.

If you order the wrong size, our 7-day exchange policy allows one exchange for a R250 courier fee. Engraved or custom rings cannot be exchanged.

Tungsten vs Titanium: Which is Right for You?

Both are popular choices for menโ€™s wedding rings and both are affordable. Here is how they compare on the things that matter most.
Factor Tungsten Carbide Titanium
Hardness (Mohs) 9 to 9.5 6
Scratch resistance Excellent. Only diamond can scratch it. Good, but scratches more easily than tungsten.
Weight Heavy and dense. Similar density to gold. Very lightweight.
Can it be resized? No. Too hard to cut without cracking. No. Too hard to solder. Complex resizing required.
Bends or breaks? Breaks. Does not bend. Bends like softer metals.
Emergency removal Cracked off with vice grips. Fast and safe. Cut off with a small metal saw.
Hypoallergenic Yes, when made with nickel binder. 100% biocompatible. No binder required.
Plating & color Black, gold, rose gold via ion plating. Plating wears. Anodized finishes available. More durable than plating.
Engraving Laser engraving only. Traditional and laser engraving both possible.
Price Affordable. Affordable.

Decision Summary: If scratch resistance and a solid, weighty feel are your priorities, tungsten is the better choice. If you want the lightest possible ring or do heavy physical work where a crack risk concerns you, titanium is worth considering.

How to Care for Your Tungsten Ring

  • Cleaning: Wash your ring with warm water and a small amount of mild dish soap. Soak for a few minutes, then wipe with a soft cloth. A soft toothbrush can reach any grooves or inlays. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.
  • Chemicals to avoid: Remove your ring before using bleach, chlorine, or ammonia-based cleaning products. These can damage the surface. Take your ring off before swimming in a chlorinated pool or hot tub.
  • Plated rings: If your ring has a black, gold, or rose gold plating, the plating can scratch and fade over time. Remove the ring before doing physical work, using harsh chemicals, or washing dishes. The tungsten underneath will always remain intact.
  • Storage: Store your ring in its original box when you are not wearing it. Tungsten is extremely hard and can scratch softer jewellery if stored together.

Consumer Policy

Moissanite By Design operates in alignment with the rights set out in the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

We value transparency and clear communication throughout the design and manufacturing process. If you believe we have not met our service standards, please contact us directly so we can address your concern promptly and professionally.

In accordance with Sections 17 through 20 of the Act, the following terms apply:

Order Cancellation Policy

Custom and Bespoke Jewellery

All engagement rings, wedding rings, and custom jewellery pieces are made to order according to the clientโ€™s selected specifications.

Because these items are bespoke and manufactured specifically for each client, they are not easily resold. For this reason, a deposit is required to secure materials and begin production.

This deposit is non-refundable.

The deposit is used to:

  • Secure precious metals and gemstones

  • Initiate design and manufacturing processes

  • Cover material costs that cannot be recovered

The deposit does not cover labour, design time, or manufacturing hours already invested.

If a client chooses to cancel a custom order after the deposit has been paid, the deposit will be retained to cover material allocation and associated losses.

Once CAD design approval has been granted and production has commenced, the order is considered final and cannot be cancelled.

In-Stock Jewellery

If you purchase a jewellery item that is available in stock and not custom-made specifically for you, cancellation is permitted before dispatch, subject to a 20% cancellation fee based on the total purchase price.

This fee covers administrative processing and associated costs.

Once the item has been dispatched or collected, standard return conditions apply as outlined below.

Returns and Refunds

Custom-Made Jewellery

Due to the bespoke nature of engagement rings, wedding rings, and custom jewellery pieces, Moissanite By Design does not accept returns or offer refunds on custom-made items.

Each item is produced according to the clientโ€™s approved design and specifications. Custom pieces cannot be refurbished for resale due to sizing, design, and personalisation factors.

Scrap Gold Value Compensation

If a client chooses to return a fully paid custom-made item, compensation may be offered at the current gold scrap value of the piece only.

This is because:

  • The item must be refined

  • It cannot be resold as new stock

  • The original design and manufacturing costs cannot be recovered

Scrap value compensation is calculated based on the prevailing gold refining rate at the time of assessment.

No compensation is provided for:

  • Design costs

  • Labour

  • Stone value

  • Manufacturing costs

Damaged or Defective Items

If an item is delivered with a manufacturing defect, the client must notify us within 48 hours of receipt. The item will be assessed and, where applicable, repaired or replaced in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act.

This does not include:

  • Normal wear and tear

  • Accidental damage

  • Misuse or improper care

Questions Before Ordering

We encourage all clients to review their CAD designs carefully and ask any questions before approving production. If you require clarification regarding cancellations, returns, or refunds, please contact us before placing your order.

Our goal is to ensure that every client feels informed and confident before proceeding with their custom jewellery purchase.
