How the stone sits on the finger
A solitaire is a single stone on a plain band. A halo surrounds the centre stone with smaller stones, which makes it look larger. See our halo engagement rings. A hidden halo places the small stones under the centre stone, so you see them from the side. A bezel wraps the stone in a thin rim of metal and suits active hands.
If you work with your hands, tell us. We choose a lower setting with stronger protection around the stone.
Yellow gold gives a warm look and flatters most skin tones. See yellow gold moissanite engagement rings. White gold has a cool, bright finish. Rose gold has a soft pink tone. Platinum is naturally white, dense and hard wearing, and it costs more.

A ready-made ring is quick, and there is nothing wrong with that. A custom ring takes more thought and gives you three things a ready-made ring cannot.
First, control over the budget. You decide where the money goes. Second, a ring nobody else has. Third, the right fit for her hand and lifestyle. We shape the band, the height and the setting around the person who will wear it every day.

Planning what to spend
The price depends on four things: the stone, its size, the metal and the setting. Our current ring designs start from R15,990 and run up to R39,850 and beyond for larger stones and platinum. A one carat moissanite in a plain yellow gold band costs far less than a two carat lab grown diamond in platinum with a halo. Both are custom rings.
The best way to plan is to tell us your budget range first. We show you what that range buys in your chosen shape and metal. If your budget is tight, we suggest where to save without changing the look.

How do custom engagement rings work?
You send us your idea, either a photo or a description. We confirm the stone, metal and setting, give you a written quote and show you a preview of the design. Once you approve the design, we make the ring. You decide at every step before production starts.
Can I have a custom engagement ring made from a photo?
Yes. A screenshot, a Pinterest picture or a rough sketch is enough to start. We tell you which parts we can copy exactly and which parts we would change to suit your stone, finger and budget.
Is a custom engagement ring more expensive than a ready-made ring?
Not necessarily. The price depends on the stone, the metal and the setting. A custom ring lets you spend on the parts you care about and save on the parts you do not. You receive a written quote before you commit.
Should I choose moissanite or a lab grown diamond?
Moissanite gives strong sparkle at a lower price. A lab grown diamond is a real diamond with the same chemical makeup as a mined diamond, so it suits buyers who want a diamond by definition. We show you both in your chosen shape and size so you can compare.
What metals can my custom ring be made in?
We make custom rings in yellow gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum, in different gold purities. We advise on the best choice for your lifestyle and budget.
Are the stones certified?
Moissanite is certified by GRA. Lab grown diamonds come with IGI certification as standard, and GIA certification is available on request.
Can you match a wedding band to my custom engagement ring?
Yes. We design the wedding band so it sits flush against your engagement ring, and we can make bands for both of you.
Can I order a custom engagement ring if I do not live in Cape Town?
Yes. We work with customers across South Africa, including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Sandton. The whole process runs online and on WhatsApp.
What if the ring does not fit?
Send us your ring size or use our ring size guide before we start. If you are unsure, tell us and we will help you work it out discreetly.
Can you remake or redesign a ring I already own?
Yes. Send us photos of the existing ring and tell us what you want to change. We can reuse a stone you already own or replace it.
How do I pay?
We accept the payment methods listed on our payment methods page, including PayFast. Your quote explains exactly what is due and when.

Absolutely! At Moissanite By Design, we offer One Free Resize for moissanite engagement rings and wedding rings to use within the first 12 months of your ring’s completion (subject to eligible design style/metal type).
Can a small change be made to the engagement rings I like on your website?
All our moissanite engagement rings are made to order, which allows us to customise our standard jewellery pieces customised to suit your preferences. For example, we can change the sizes of your stones, the precious metal, and the gems that we set. Contact us to discuss all of your custom design options.
Do you supply the necessary certificates for the various gemstones?
Yes, all moissanites and lab grown diamonds bigger than 0.50 carats come with the requisite certification.
What is the process involved in purchasing a custom engagement ring?

How long will it take to get my order?

We make every moissanite engagement ring to order to ensure the highest quality. Our standard manufacturing lead time is 3-4 weeks. Please know that we will do our best to get your ring completed as soon as possible.
Lab Grown Diamonds
In order to offer you the best prices, we buy and import on a weekly basis. The process is streamlined and generally fast and typically ships out to you within 8 to 15 working days.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes! At Moissanite By Design, we offer international shipping on all orders, including those for the perfect moissanite engagement ring. Shop online and add your chosen piece to your shopping bag with ease.
Import Duties and Taxes
You may have to pay local import taxes and duties, which Moissanite By Design does not cover, as some countries do not allow us to pay them as the sender

What payment methods do you accept?
At Moissanite By Design, we accept payments via EFT, debit or credit card. If you are looking for buy now pay later payment plans, we offer PayJustNow or PayFlex.
Returns, Refunds & Exchanges Policy
We take pride in producing high-quality jewellery and aim for every client to feel confident and satisfied with their purchase. Because our engagement rings, wedding rings, and custom jewellery are made to order, specific terms apply to returns, exchanges, and refunds.
Please read the policy below carefully before placing an order.
Refunds
We specialise in made-to-order engagement rings, wedding rings, and custom jewellery pieces. Each item is produced specifically for you based on your selected design, measurements, and specifications. For this reason, all sales are final.
Because these pieces are custom made, we do not offer returns, exchanges, or refunds once production has begun. Items cannot be resold or repurposed.
Once you have reviewed and approved the CAD design and manufacturing has started, the order is considered final. You are responsible for carefully checking all details in the CAD design, including stone size, shape, setting style, band width, and proportions. Any changes or revisions must be requested before you approve the CAD. After approval, changes are no longer possible.
All deposits and payments made toward engagement rings, wedding rings, or custom jewellery are non-refundable. When an order is placed, design work and manufacturing processes begin immediately, and these costs cannot be recovered if the order is cancelled.
If you receive an item that is damaged or defective, you must notify us within 48 hours of delivery. We will assess the issue and, where appropriate, arrange a repair or replacement at our discretion. Normal wear and tear, accidental damage, or changes requested after delivery are not covered.
This policy applies to:

• Any made-to-order jewellery pieces

Exchanges
We only replace items if they are defective or damaged and exchange them for the same item.
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item.
We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your exchange.
Sale items
Only regular priced items may be refunded, unfortunately custom made, personalised and sale items cannot be refunded.
Shipping
To return your product, contact us at sales@moissanitebydesign.com and we will send you further instructions and a return address.
Moissanite By Design will not be liable for the shipping and insurance costs for any parcels returned for a refund, and exchange or a resizing. You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable.
Since you will be shipping valuable items, you should consider using a trackable shipping service and purchasing shipping insurance. We don’t guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. Replacement items will be re-made to order and sent back to you in 2 – 3 weeks.
