Halo Engagement Rings South Africa
South Africa's most popular halo engagement rings, custom made to order in Cape Town. A halo engagement ring surrounds the centre stone with a circle of smaller pavé-set accent stones. The word halo describes exactly what the design creates: a ring of light that amplifies the apparent size of the centre stone and multiplies its fire. A one-carat centre stone in a well-designed halo appears closer to one-and-a-half carats. For couples who want maximum visual presence without the cost of a larger centre stone, the halo is the most efficient design decision in engagement ring buying.
At Moissanite by Design, every halo engagement ring is made to order in South Africa. Every design starts with a consultation and a 3D CAD render you approve before production begins. Custom designs and fully bespoke halos are both available.
Why Moissanite and Lab Diamond, Not Mined Diamond
Moissanite by Design does not stock mined diamonds. This is a deliberate choice, not a limitation.
Moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65 versus diamond's 2.42. It disperses more spectral fire, the coloured flashes you see when light strikes the stone at an angle. In a halo setting, where dozens of accent stones surround the centre stone, this difference in fire is multiplied across every stone in the ring. A moissanite halo creates more combined brilliance than an equivalent mined diamond halo at 85 to 90% less cost. Moissanite scores 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale. It will not cloud, scratch from daily wear, or lose its brilliance over decades.
Lab-grown diamonds are physically, chemically and optically identical to mined diamonds. They pass every diamond tester. They carry IGI and GIA certificates. In South Africa, the rand-to-dollar exchange rate makes a comparable mined diamond halo three to five times more expensive for an identical visual result.
Moissanite Halo Engagement Rings
Moissanite halo engagement rings are the most popular choice at Moissanite by Design for couples who want maximum brilliance within a realistic South African budget. Every accent stone in the halo is also moissanite, creating a complete ring of fire from centre stone to band. All our moissanite is GRA certified D colour VVS1 clarity. Moissanite halo engagement rings start from R14,995 for a one-carat round in 9ct gold.
Lab Diamond Halo Engagement Rings
Lab diamond halo engagement rings use IGI or GIA certified lab-grown diamonds in both the centre stone and all halo accent positions. Every stone carries a real diamond grading certificate. Lab diamonds cost 50 to 70% less than mined equivalents, making it realistic to design a double halo with a substantial centre stone. Lab diamond halos start from R21,995.
Single Halo vs Double Halo
A single halo uses one row of accent stones around the centre stone. It is the most popular configuration, adding significant presence without making the ring appear oversized. A double halo uses two concentric rows for substantially greater visual impact. Double halos are particularly popular with cushion and oval centre stones.
The hidden halo places accent stones beneath the centre stone where they are visible from the side but not from above. The ring reads as a solitaire from the top and reveals a crown of light from the side.
Best Stone Shapes for a Halo Ring
The round brilliant in a halo is the classic diamond engagement ring silhouette. The oval in a halo elongates the finger dramatically and appears significantly larger than its carat weight suggests. The cushion cut in a double halo creates one of the most romantically dramatic engagement rings available. The pear in a halo creates a distinctive teardrop ring. Emerald, marquise, radiant, princess, heart and Asscher shapes are all available in halo settings.
Halo with Pavé Band
A halo combined with a pavé band is one of the most popular combinations at Moissanite by Design. The pavé band adds continuous sparkle along the shank. The halo adds brilliance around the centre stone. The combined effect creates a ring that sparkles from every direction at every angle. We show you both a plain band and a pavé band option in your 3D render.
Halo Metals Explained
Every halo ring at Moissanite by Design is solid gold or platinum throughout. We do not use plated or vermeil gold. A plated ring wears through in 12 to 18 months of daily use. Our metal options:
9ct Yellow Gold, 37.5% pure gold. Most durable for everyday wear and particularly warm alongside moissanite. Our most popular choice.
9ct White Gold, Palladium alloy, rhodium-plated. Clean and bright. Popular for contemporary halo settings.
9ct Rose Gold, Warm blush tone. Particularly beautiful with oval and cushion halo designs.
18ct Yellow, White or Rose Gold, 75% pure gold. Richer colour and the most classic fine jewellery choice.
Platinum, Naturally white, hypoallergenic and extremely dense. Available on request.
